This documentary gives an insight into the hard living reality of truck drivers. While german truckage companies can’t acquire newcomers for driving, they often hire truckers in Eastern European countries. One reason for the lack of newcomers could be the inhuman working conditions in this job. During a tour, truckers spend days and weeks in a harsh environment build with concrete and fulfilled with traffic noise.
The vehicles that are meant to be working place and living room at the same time, just provide a very minimum comfort of living. And so do the truck stops as well. In Germany many of these places are fenced off and by that isolated from the real world. These places are not meant to be lived in, as the entire environment of the highway is only a functional place –
a „non-place“ (Marc Augè, anthropologist, 1995).
